Details of the Story
The redevelopment of the old airport site is in full swing and if all goes according to plan parking lots and runways will be transformed into a vibrant and much sought-after series of new neighborhoods right in the heart of the city. Jim Adams works for ROMA Design Group. "The opportunity to develop 700 acres of public land at the very heart of a community is truly unique. There are not that many urban infill opportunities like this around the country."
The redevelopment of Mueller Airport will transform the city of Austin by revolutionizing urban growth and city planning. This 700- acre property will be transformed into a mixed-use urban village complete with a town center, an employment center, and four distinct neighborhoods. It will be home to 10,000 residents, provide 10,000 jobs and will forever change the landscape in Austin. Jim Walker lives near Mueller."People will start living here in fall 2007, the hospital way over there is going to open in the summer but it won’t be done. It’s 700 acres. So people should still feel like there’s opportunity to get involved and help figure it out."
