The documentary Almost Home comes to KLRU on January 31, 9-10:30 p.m. It follows the stories of residents, families and workers in a nursing home as they struggle with the challenges of aging while transforming the medical model nursing home (think hospital) into a social model (think neighborhood) that embraces dignity, autonomy and equality.

KLRU and its community partners, AARP and the Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area, co-hosted a community event that brought to Austin William H. Thomas, M.D., an international authority on the culture change in long-term care. Dr. Thomas inspired and issued a call to action to a crowd of more than 200 persons on December 6, 2005.
