A Lion in the House - Overview
 An unprecedented look at the childhood cancer journeys of five young people and their families comes to KLRU on June 21-22, 2006, in a landmark documentary series titled A Lion in the House.
Early this year, KLRU launched Austin’s A Lion in the House Initiative on Childhood Cancer. This community outreach initiative is designed to raise public awareness of the rippling effects caused by childhood cancer on family, community, and professional caregivers. Fourteen local organizations have worked together on a series of events and activities. The initiative has been funded in part by the Department of Pediatrics at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
The goals of the initiative include:
- Initiate a local childhood cancer coalition
- Increase public and professional awareness of disparities in childhood cancer diagnosis, treatment and survivorship
- Promote awareness about organizations serving families with childhood cancer
