Feeding your soil a "meal"

- Meals:

Many natural fertilizer blends contain one or more of these amendments, along with others. A soil test can determine which one(s) you need, if any. Many Central Texas soils have plenty of phosphorous, but lack in nitrogen.
Note: first number is nitrogen; second is phosphorous; third is potassium.
- Cornmeal:
-
9% nitrogen. Good source of nitrogen, helps fight disease, feeds beneficial soil organisms.
- Bone meal:
-
6-12-0. Major source of phosphorous to stimulate root systems, more blooms.
- Kelp meal:
-
2-0-5. 60 essential trace minerals, stimulates roots, flowers, branching. Available in liquid or granular form.
- Alfalfa meal:
-
2.5-1-2 Alfalfa means ‘the king of the lagoons.’ Contains growth stimulant called triacanthynol. Good for native plants or when you want something very gentle; often included in general blend fertilizers.
- Feather meal:

12-0-0. Major source of nitrogen.
- Food grade cottonseed meal:
-
7-2-1. Food grade will ensure that it doesn’t contain herbicides or insecticides.
- All around meal!

Compost. First and most important ingredient for healthy soil and plants.
