Question of the week

<%=tDate%>

Q. Many people have asked about the grapevines that Trisha used to wrap a tomato cage. Where to get them and how to use them?

A. Trisha says that grapevines are available at crafts stores like Michael’s. Before using, put in a bucket, weight them down, and cover with water overnight. This will make them more pliable for crafting.

Plant of the week

Agave
Agave provides a unique structural element in the landscape. In winter, when most plants are losing their appeal, agave remains an attractive feature in the overall design. From the large century plants to short, squatty species that grow to less than 2 feet in size, there are numerous species and varieties to choose from. Here in Central Texas, they are a wonderful, nocare plant that adds a dramatic western flair. Most species need full sun and a location away from pedestrian traffic as the pointed leaves are very sharp!

Planting tips of the week
  • Be ready to cover any plants you haven’t protected so far.
  • Remember that plastic should not come in contact with plants, and must be removed on sunny days when temperatures rise.
