To Do This Week

Week of October 29th, 2011

  • Plant herbs like dill, parsley, cilantro, oregano , chervil, chamomile, arugula and thyme.
  • Plant winter vegetables like lettuce, radishes, spinach, broccoli, and carrots.
  • If you have a compost pile, and you're like me and couldn't bring yourself to get out there and turn it this summer, now's a great time to do it. And if you don't have a composting system now's a great time to consider starting one.
  • The City of Austin has some great composting classes, and you can even get a free composting bin from them, if you're willing to down-size your garbage bin to the smallest size.
  • Plant trees, shrubs, perennials.
  • Plant spring wildflower seeds.
  • Remember to water your dry soil before planting anything!
  • Weed! Spring weeds are already germinating. It's easier to scrape or dig them now before they get out of control.
