To Do This Week

Week of April 21st, 2012

  • Divide spring-flowering bulbs that are turning brown on top.
  • Collect seeds from spring annuals. Wait until the seed head is completely brown. Dry for a week in a cool spot, and then store in baggies or jars in a cool place indoors or in the refrigerator.
  • Plant beans, corn, squash, peppers, cantaloupe, okra, watermelons and eggplant.
  • Control fire ants with a spinosad-based granular bait. You can follow up with a drench of orange oil in individual mounds.
  • Empty plant containers behind the shed or other hiding places in your garden to discourage mosquitoes.
