KLRU Block Party gala fundraiser features
Los Lonely Boys, Grupo Fantasma, and more

Plans for downtown’s Block 21 to be unveiled during Block Party

Austin, TX — Each year, KLRU-TV, Austin PBS, invites Austinites to a world-class gala to celebrate and raise funds for the non-profit TV station and its programming including the signature national production Austin City Limits. The 2006 KLRU Block Party gala will be Friday, October 13, at 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. in Downtown Austin’s Block 21. This year’s event will feature a sneak peek at the development plans for Block 21 plus performances by Texican rockers Los Lonely Boys and Austin’s Grupo Fantasmo.

In addition to a fun evening of food from the Four Seasons and signature drinks designed especially for this event, the Block Party gala highlights the new seasons of KLRU’s productions including Austin City Limits, Austin Now, Central Texas Gardener, In Context, SXSW Presents and Texas Monthly Talks.  Attendees will also find out how their support of KLRU helps the station go beyond television to serve the community in five areas of focus — KLRU Educates, KLRU Connects, KLRU Creates, KLRU Explores, KLRU Presents.

As the first major event in the Block 21 area, KLRU’s Block Party gala will spotlight the partnerships involved in the project.  This lot located between Lavaca and Guadalupe and Second and Third Streets across from Austin’s new City Hall is a cornerstone in the revitalization of Downtown as destination for Austinites. The development will include some of Austin’s signature businesses and non-profit organizations plus nationally recognized businesses making their Austin debut.

Ten-seat tables are $5,000 and they may be purchased online at klru.org/blockparty.

Honorary chairs for KLRU’s Block Party are Willie Nelson and Coach Darrell Royal.
