Local children to write and illustrate their own books
WHAT:
Thirteenth annual KLRU-TV, Austin PBS, Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest
WHO:
Kindergarten to third graders in Central Texas
WHEN:
Contest starts January 15 and ends March 20
ABOUT:
Each year, KLRU invites students in kindergarten through third grade to create their own books with original stories and drawings. A panel of teachers and librarians judges the entries and local winners move on to the national competition. Complete rules and the 2006 first place stories are available at klru.org/readingrainbow.
KLRU-TV, Austin PBS, reflects, celebrates and inspires Central Texas through creative excellence, community engagement and lifelong learning. Although primarily a television station providing locally produced and quality national programming, KLRU is also a non-profit organization helping to build a stronger community through five areas of focus — KLRU Presents, KLRU Explores, KLRU Creates, KLRU Connects and KLRU Educates.
The local Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest project is part of the KLRU Educates area of focus. KLRU Educates provides Central Texas with iconic PBS Kids programs like Sesame Street and Zoom, local productions like The Biscuit Brothers and beyond television initiatives such as the KLRU Kids Club and Family Choice. KLRU also makes learning a life-long experience with PBS programs and projects like Ready To Learn and TeacherLine.
