Reading Rainbow 2008 Contest

KLRU
is proud to have presented the Fourteenth Annual Reading Rainbow
Young Writers and Illustrators Contest. This local competition encouraged children in kindergarten through third grade to create their own original picture books.
After reading 170 books submitted by the children of Central Texas, KLRU will be judging for first, second and third place winners in Kindergarten through Third grade. The first place winners in each grade will then go on to the national contest. Each child who entered the contest will be awarded with a certificate signed by Lavar Burton.
The Reading Rainbow's Young Writers & Illustrators Contest is meant to be fun -- and a chance for children to express themselves and be recognized for their creative efforts.
We celebrated our local winners in a wonderful ceremony on Saturday, May 17th.
National prizes include laptops (Grand Prize), flat
panel TVs + DVDs (Second Place), MP3 players (Third Place).
Local prizes include DVDs, books and Reading Rainbow
backpacks.
The illustrated stories of national Contest winners and a sampling of local winners from previous years are displayed on READING RAINBOW’s Web site (pbskids.org/readingrainbow).
In July the newest winners – those from the 14th Annual Contest – will be posted. The Web site also features fun, engaging activities and games for kids and information about READING RAINBOW for parents and teachers.
