Preservation Assets Coordinator

KLRU-TV, Austin PBS, seeks a Preservation Assets Coordinator to assist the Technical Project Director in preserving both the Austin City Limits archive and KLRU station archives. KLRU has 45 years of videos, audio, paper, artifacts and photos from the longest-running music television show in history as well as 50 years of KLRU station materials. We need your help to properly organize, catalog and preserve these materials for years to come.

Working with the Technical Project Director, you will take a hands on approach to each step in the preservation process. You’ll be responsible for digital and data tasks such as organizing, cataloging, gathering and managing metadata for multiple formats of archival materials. This includes handling physical archive objects for cataloging, inspection, inventory, barcoding and shipping.

Responsibilities:

  • Handling, organizing and cataloging large amounts of analog and digital audiovisual materials, photographic, paper materials and artifacts in a preservation setting
  • Documenting processes and workflows as instructed by supervisor
  • Inventory creation and management including data entry updates, normalization and authorization
  • Data entry, correction and exports using existing database
  • Research and identification of unidentified people, places and objects found in audiovisual materials, paper and photographs
  • Planning, scheduling, project communication and execution as agreed upon per project
  • Coordinate and track a high volume of work through an end to end workflow
  • Delegating tasks to and supervising others during project tasks in a non-management role
  • Other duties as required

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, related degree or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years experience metadata gathering, structuring and standards
  • 3-5 years experience using taxonomies and nomenclature
  • 2-3 years experience using Google Sheets and Excel
  • Familiarity with metadata standards like PBCore

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions to meet complex specifications for preservation
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Deadline driven
  • Critical problem solving

Preferred:

  • 3-5 years of experience with audiovisual encoding, transcoding
  • 3-5 years of experience with photo scanning

Physical Requirements:

  • This job includes handling old, dirty, fragile and sometimes very heavy archival materials
  • Must understand or be willing to learn and apply proper handling techniques of archival materials
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs, can go up and down ladders
